Artist Statement

To be an artist, especially a potter, means to turn something from nothing into something. The process of turning dirt into a beautiful item and giving it value is fascinating to me. I enjoy giving a meaningless object meaning by working it and putting it through 1,945 degrees to physically change the composition of the piece and give it meaning. My portfolio will reflect me and my exploration of nature. The investigation of life and death, through flora and oceanic themes. I chose these pieces because they are my best at this time. I have a lot of work ahead of me. I would like people to see my work and feel how they feel off of their gut. I do not want to tell people what to feel or understand about it. I prefer to have an individual's raw reaction as the purest form of their understanding. I would be interested in creating a small company or business where I can sell my products. It is intriguing to me to be able to sell products and create a community. I would also like to meet other artists with my similar interests. Friends and family and connections to make pieces for people. In the future I am going to do my sustained investigation, I am following my idea of life and death.
